Prime Minister Thaçi: Ending supervised independence – Kosovo’s strongest message that its independence is functional

Chaired by the Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo today held its 86th regular meeting, in which a Draft Law on the confiscation of property gained through criminal acts was approved, as well as a Draft Law on the use and exchange of immoveable municipal property, and a Draft Law on Government Authorities for the Information Society, as well as other decisions deriving from its field of legislative and Constitutional responsibilities.

At the start of the meeting, Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi informed the Government cabinet about preparations for concluding supervised independence, which are being done in close coordination with the international community and International Steering Group. Prime Minister Thaçi emphasized that the ending of this process is a joint success, which opens up a new chapter of a concrete European perspective for Kosovo.

“I can say freely that from the start of September, with the concluding meeting of the International Steering Group in Prishtina, and the official assessment that will come out of that meeting, that this is Kosovo’s strongest message that its independence is functional; that we have built democratic order; that we have built a tolerant life among all the country’s citizens; and that our state has brought more peace, stability and democratic spirit to the entire region,” said Prime Minister Thaçi.

Deputy Prime Minister Hajredin Kuçi presented an exchange of letters occurring between the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo and European Union authorities about EULEX’s mandate.  According to the proposal of Kosovo’s institutions, the EULEX mission will hold its last working day in Kosovo on June 14, 2014, when the end of its mandate is foreseen.
 
The mutual agreement which is anticipated will be ratified in the Kosovo Parliament with two thirds of the votes of deputies, and Kosovo’s institutions have requested that during its work, EULEX submit to the President the names of judges and prosecutors which will be employed in Kosovo.

The Government of the Republic of Kosovo approved a Draft Law on the confiscation of property gained through criminal acts, which foresees the creation and development of the legal basis for confiscating material goods achieved through criminal acts, in order to prevent and fight organized crime more successfully.

Also approved were a Draft Law on the use and exchange of immoveable municipal property and a Draft Law on Government Authorities for the Information Society, which aims to define the authorities responsible for development of services for the information society in the Republic of Kosovo.

During this meeting, a regulatory project was approved setting salary levels for services and official controls by the Food and Veterinary Agency and a draft Administrative Instruction for the Protection and Use of Statistics, as well as a preliminary draft decision on expropriation in the public interest of immoveable property in the cadastral zones of Bërnicë e Poshtme, Bardhosh and Trudë in the Municipality of Prishtina.

The Minister of the Diaspora, Ibrahim Makolli informed the Government about the Diaspora Days, the main day of which was held on August 4 in Prekaz, while its activities continue until August 20.

The Government set aside funds to construct a statue of the martyr Fadil Vata in the town of Suhareka.
